A STONE wall around a property at the bottom of Pounds Hill in Crediton was badly damaged by a Mid Devon District Council recycling lorry on Tuesday, March 8, at about 7.30am.

Tracy, who lives in the bungalow, said she had just seen the Crediton Courier’s Facebook notification that Jockey Hill was closed due to an accident involving a van, which had overturned.

She was stood outside her door phoning a colleague who was due to pick her up, when she realised the recycling lorry had seen that Jockey Hill was closed and was reversing towards the stone wall where she was standing.

Tracy said: “It seemed to be reversing towards me in slow motion and I just froze.

“Then there was a loud crash as it hit the wall and the stones landed right in front of me.

“I was very shaken-up but luckily uninjured.”

MDDC will be sending an accessor to the property and it is hoped that the wall will be repaired using the original stone and in keeping with its age.
