SLIGHT of stature she may have been but there could be no denying the determined twinkle in her eye when something needed to be done. June Sandford was always there, ready to help and possessed of an energy that had to be seen to be believed.

Her death at Tiverton Hospital on April 11 at the age of 76 has taken away from Cheriton Fitzpaine someone who could truly be described as a character. June was involved in many activities in the village. She was a member of the Mothers' Union, the Women's Institute, Gardening Club and Welcome Club. She was also an acknowledged flower arranger and helped with affairs of the parish hall and the village playing fields.

June was also a devout Christian, practising her faith by her actions.
