NOW in its third year, the Music Makers’ is an on-going concert series in Crediton.

It offers a platform for locally-based musicians and ensembles to perform (classical and other music), and to provide interesting, enjoyable events for all those who come to listen.

The annual programme includes four evening concerts, a series of lunchtime recitals (in August), and a New Year’s Day concert for young musicians.

All events take place in the warm and friendly setting of Crediton Congregational Church, on Crediton High Street.

Programmes are not normally published in advance, but the concerts are noted for their variety - with piano and instrumental solos, vocal performances and ensemble works. Expect music written by composers both ancient and contemporary, in both Classical and other styles.

The evening concerts take place quarterly – with the next in the series, No. 10, on Tuesday, October 20, at 7.30pm. Doors open at 6.45pm for refreshments.

The musical programme is supervised by new musical director Rebecca Willson, with pianist Carol Galton as piano accompanist: both are highly accomplished musicians based in Exeter. Admission to the evening concerts is just £7, with under 16s going free.

Paul Vincent says of the Music Makers’ events: “We don’t make any assumptions that the audience is familiar with different composers or musical periods etc. These concerts are designed with the slightly recalcitrant 15-year old in mind, who’s been dragged along rather against their will: I want them to leave saying: ‘Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought!’

“For everyone else, it’s a refreshingly different approach to putting on music - and a reminder that live performances by good performers are well worth the effort of turning out for.”
