AS part of my job visiting rural properties across the South Western counties it is clear that the state of the roads and the number of potholes in Devon are far worse than the neighbouring counties of Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall.

I have had to replace two tyres recently, damaged in deep unavoidable potholes at a cost approaching £400.

Whilst I quite understand that Devon has more roads than neighbouring counties, our roads are now in their worst condition, following one of the wettest winters on record.

As we have had virtually no snow or ice this winter may I assume that Devon County Highways Department will use the considerable sum of money saved on not having to regularly grit the roads this winter and spend this money on urgent repairs to potholes across the county.

These are a danger to motorists, cyclists, horses and pedestrians.
