CROWDS gathered in towns and villages locally to pay tribute to fallen servicemen and women at many Remembrance services during the last week.

Local dignitaries, veterans, individuals, children and representatives from many organisations and events were among those who paid their respects along with hundreds of onlookers.

In Crediton many people attended the service at Crediton Parish Church which preceded the parade to the town and Hamlets war memorial, where wreaths were laid and a respectful silence was observed.

The A377 was closed to enable the procession and ceremony to take place.

There was the well-documented burning of some wreaths the day after (see pages one and two).

On Armistice Day a good crowd gathered at the memorial, a maroon signalling the start and end of the two minutes' silence.

Wreaths were laid to replace those burned.
