DAVID Pike from Spreyton has been very busy this year, raising thousands of pounds for local charity Children's Hospice South West, by selling draw tickets to win a hand-carved wooden nativity set!
The nativity set, also made by David, is certainly a work of art and takes David three to four months to make each year. This year the draw raised in the region of £5,350, which makes a grand total of £20,740 raised by David over the past four years!
"The figures are made from a tree that fell down in a storm in London 1987" said David, "so they already have a lot of history. The straw on the roof is sourced locally in Devon and even the timber for the sides was donated from an army barracks years ago. I hope that the winner will be able to enjoy the Nativity set for years to come."
The winner of this years Nativity set, who was picked by two sisters Lilli and Ruby, is Mrs Margaret Harding from Burton Radstock, who is kindly donating it back to Children's Hospice South West to have pride of place at Little Harbour, the charity's third children's hospice due to open in 2011 in St. Austell.
