THE outgoing captain at Downes Credition Golf Club made a bumper presentation this week.
David Slee, who was captain at the Golf Club in 2010, presented a cheque for £3,390.58 to Sarah Willocks, fundraising manager of the local cancer charity, FORCE.
David chose FORCE as his "Captain's charity" during his year in office and said that the money was raised by holding quizzes, raffles and a 100 holes competition in June.
FORCE has played a vital role in local cancer services for more than 20 years.
Its work finances improvements in patient care through research, the purchase of advanced equipment and it has a Cancer Support and Information Centre in the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford).
Open every weekday, the Centre offers a relaxed and comfortable setting where visitors can seek information and advice and discuss needs. Referrals are not required to use the services.
Sarah Willock said she was "overwhelmed" by the generosity of Downes Crediton Golf Club members and "thanked them very much indeed".
She added: "We couldn't do our work without voluntary contributions from those such as yourselves, so thank you very much."
