Villagers responded magnificently to an appeal for jumble to be sold at the annual jumble sale held by Cheriton Fitzpaine Twinning Association.

At the parish hall tables were over flowing with items, ranging from clothes, linens and books to shoes, toys and a variety of bric-a-brac.

Organiser Paula Mossman told the Courier: "Jumble sales are not now as common as once they were and we were delighted that ours was so well supported and raised a total of over £315."

There was a mouth-watering array of cakes in the tea room and a raffle with over 20 prizes.

Twinning Association Chairperson, Mrs Jan Hadley recalled that the Association had been in existence for 28 years, twinned with Bonnesbosq in Normandy.

Recently children of both places had begun to make friends with each other, which helped to develop language skills and an understanding of the two different cultures.

Said Mrs Mossman: "We receive no funding or sponsorship for our programme, so events like the sale are vital to help us finance and organise a varied and enjoyable visit for our French friends when they come to Devon next spring."
