EACH year Hospiscare supports more than 2,500 adults who are living with a life-limiting illness across the heart of Devon, from Exeter and into East Devon, to Okehampton. It was set up 40 years ago.
Over that time, it has expanded and, as a charity, needs to raise about £8 million a year to continue to provide its care.
To help boost its income, the Crediton Men’s Sheds group held a coffee morning at the Boniface Centre in Crediton on Saturday, October 29 with home-made cakes and a bric-a-brac stall, and raised a total of £278.
The Men’s Sheds group, not to be confused with Men in Sheds, is a social group open to any male of any age. It is run by Crediton Parish Church.
For someone who has been diagnosed with any type of terminal illness, Hospiscare’s expert doctors and nurses are there to help.
Its services include support at home, a specialist palliative care ward, out-patients clinics and supportive therapies.
Anyone wanting to know more about Men’s Sheds should contact the Rev Lewis Eden (01363 779632). He explained that it had been felt a place where “men could hang out, a safe space for men to be themselves, maybe share problems” was needed and so Men’s Sheds was born.
Set up before lockdown, it went into a sort of hibernation until this year.
