Donna Midgley passed away suddenly after suffering from a pulmonary embolism and heart attack at the age of 44.
Callum Teal, who celebrated his 10th birthday on Christmas Day, and his sister, Keeley, decided that Devon Freewheelers, also known as “blood bikes”, which offers a free out-of-hours service to NHS establishments across Devon, should receive the money.
Lisa Midgley, Donna’s sister-in-law, said: “We asked for anyone who would like to give at her funeral and afterwards to give it to the blood bikes 'Devon Freewheelers' and we raised £265.
“Donna had been unwell and was admitted to hospital. She sadly died from blood clots while having a CT scan in the hospital. The hospital did everything it could but they were unable to save her.”
Lisa added: “In her early years Donna enjoyed being a member of the Crediton Greensword Majorettes and the TEC Starlight Majorettes (formerly St Boniface).
"She was an employee at Somerfield in Crediton on the home delivery side.
"She then went on to be a carer in Exeter, followed by being a boarding cleaner at Queen Elizabeth's Community College (now Queen Elizabeth's School).
"Donna was a devoted mum to Keeley and Callum."
Dave Cook, a volunteer rider with Devon Freewheelers received the cheque on December 31.
He thanked all those who donated and said that the money would help the charity greatly.
He presented Callum and Keeley with a water bottle, pen and badge each from the charity.
