THE following letter has been sent to RES (Renewable Energy Systems): YOU need to be aware, if you are not already aware, which may well "officially" be the case because you have publicly not commented that AT LEAST ONE of the locations of the nine proposed turbines is now known to be far too close (by recent Government Transport Department standards and requirements) to the operating railway (where trains can currently travel at up to 55mph) which runs through this proposed wind turbine generating complex near North Tawton in Devon. This matter is now even more relevant because of the serious Government study which increasingly indicates that the former main line from Exeter via Okehampton to Plymouth could be reinstated throughout for regular rail traffic and also used as a diversionary route for Plymouth and Cornwall rail traffic that will in the future be prevented from using the current Exeter to Plymouth via Newton Abbot route when it is closed for emergency and regular planned maintenance and renewal works. Articles are now appearing in the local press about this concern, eg Crediton Courier newspaper of November 7, 2014. Clearly at least one turbine, possibly more, now need to be re-sited to safer locations clear of any danger of parts or even complete turbines falling onto the railway line...should a train hit an obstruction at speed and derail then the consequences to passengers does not bear thinking about...with certain resultant injuries and possible loss of life. I await your reply with interest. AJ Hill Devon By email PS: Several months ago I contacted, by email, RES, West Devon Borough Council and my local MP, Mel Stride, about this matter...I received no reply from RES.
