PROFESSOR Stephen Lea led the service at Crediton Methodist Church on Sunday, January 10. His theme was “You’re not done yet”.
In the reading from Mark we heard of John the Baptist in the wilderness eating locusts and wild honey. The family challenge was taken up by three people who provided a recipe using locusts – yummy!
John the Baptist was preaching a baptism of repentance and Jesus came to John to be baptised at the beginning of his ministry. He needed reassurance of the Holy Spirit’s strength within Him.
Most of us are baptised as babies, but one member spoke of his believer’s baptism at the age of 15 by immersion at a Baptist church. It had a profound effect on him and he felt a new chapter of his life beginning after publicly declaring his belief in Jesus.
In the reading from Acts 19 we heard that some of the believers in Ephesus said they had never heard of the Holy Spirit. Stephen said that we know God’s spirit within our own hearts. All of us can experience this regardless of our circumstances and it can come to us at any time.
Stephen said: “You are not done yet”. God has never done with us – there is always more to know and experience – it is a beginning not an end.
