AT 11.30pm on Saturday, October 31, Police were contacted and informed of two males having a fight in The Old Malt Scoop Inn at Lapford.

The report stated that both males, who were friends, had got into an argument and assaulted each other.

Both received wounds that required them to attend and be admitted to hospital at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Police units from Crediton, Tiverton and Exeter attended the scene to deal with the incident.

Both males, as at Monday, November 2, were still in hospital being treated for their injuries and Tiverton CID department said they will be speaking to both males in due course about the incident.

Police Sgt Dave MacFadden, Neighbourhood Team Leader for Crediton and Cullompton said: “The nature of this incident and its location has come as a bit of a surprise to me and I’m sure it is a ‘one’ off.

“The two males are believed to be friends and will no doubt regret getting involved in a fight with each other in the cold light of day and when they both sober up!

“Both males will be asked for their accounts when they are fit to be interviewed so we can work out exactly what happened and why.

“We have recently had two similar incidents take place in our area, which is very unusual.

“This type of behaviour, regardless of the situation, is not welcome in our rural communities.

“I will be asking for positive action to be taken against anyone found to have been involved in the incidents.

“The Crediton area is, in general, a safe place to live, which is what we must remember. I just want to reassure our communities that we are investigating both incidents and we also know who is involved and we will be taking the most appropriate action against those responsible.”
