TO mark World Sight Day on October 11, Crediton Community Bookshop and Stewart Price Opticians will be publicising the book “Poetry in Vision”.

Local author, Sue Harrod was invited to launch her book “Poetry in Vision” by the National Eye Research Centre at their garden party at Pinkney Park, near Malmesbury.

Sue’s book was inspired following retinal surgery, when she had to lay face down for seven days to enable a gas bubble to flatten her retina.

The book took 18 months to complete, resulting in 39 poems, which use humour and emotion to tell events in her life that give an insight into coping with sight loss.

From the very positive reviews below, she hopes the book will inspire others.

“’Poetry in Vision’ is a super book, bringing home the importance of family, friends, passions and creativity in life.

"From stories of Ukranian love songs, mistaken identities and stowaway pants, through to the pleasures of sea swimming, surfing and paddle boarding., Sue’s lively and engaging style makes you smile through, yet also manages to capture the quirks and challenges of life with sight loss.

"Nurturing the spirit of adventure, this book is a must-read for anyone with a curiosity for life, and the many ups, downs and diversions that unfold along the way.” Dr S.Bell, Research Fellow, University of Exeter Medical School, Truro.

“Your words will always inspire me through my career as a retinal surgeon” A S, formerly at Bristol Eye Hospital.

The book costs £15, with all proceeds going to fund eye research.

It can be obtained from Crediton Community Bookshop and Stewart Price Opticians both on Crediton High Street.

Alternatively order through the National Eye Research Centre’s website: www.nerc-charity.org.uk .
