I WAS sad to read the appeal by Kate Barnett (Courier, February 19) for a stem cell donor. I am amazed after all these years the register still needs more people to sign up.

As a bone marrow donor in 1995 to a lady of similar age to Kate, I can assure anyone who will consider going on the Antony Nolan register, the feeling if you become a match to someone desperate for help is immense.

My lady as I found out five years later when she contacted me, was a mother of three and because I could help, 20 years later she is a grandmother and really well.

You could save someone’s life just by giving a small amount of stem cells. It couldn’t have been too traumatic because I did it again in 2001.

Please consider helping this mum and others like her who need just a small amount of your “life-giving blood”.
