PLANS to allow 10 solar panels in the garden of the Grade II listed Creedy Bridge Cottage on the outskirts of Crediton have been lodged with Mid Devon District Council.

The panels would be arranged in two rows of five in the rear garden and be mounted on lightweight freestanding frames. They would not be fixed to the ground, nor would any foundations need to be laid.

“The applicant [Mr A Courtis] seeks to improve the environmental performance and long-term sustainability of the property through the generation of renewable energy,” planning documents say.

“Due to the fully reversible nature of the installation, the proposal preserves both the physical integrity and visual character of the heritage asset."

Creedy Bridge Cottage “probably” dates to the late 18th century or early 19th century, its official listing says. It has a modern extension to the rear.
