CREDITON Photography Club members, who meet on Friday evenings at the Masonic Hall, have been enjoying a very successful season.
As reported in the Courier at the time, the opening event, featuring internationally renowned Landscape Photographer Joe Cornish, attracted an audience of 120.
Highlights since then have included an excellent presentation of the latest cameras and equipment by Devon Camera Exchange, tutorial evenings on Studio Lighting Techniques by Andy Wyatt and on Seascape Photography by David Snowden and Colin Yelland,
Members have also benefitted from outstanding contributions by visiting speakers; Ken Holland, an experienced judge, on "Looking at Photographs" and portfolio presentations by distinguished West Country Photographers Maureen Douglas-Green and Di Wilkins.
Finally, Paul Rendell, a Dartmoor expert, gave members valuable information about some of the lesser-known locations on the moor.
Two of the club's four internal competitions have now taken place, judged by Susan Akerstrom and David Rayner, respectively and both contests attracted a large entry, which the judges felt to be of a high standard.
In November, the club visited Exmouth for the first half of its annual four-way contest in the South Devon Photographic League. Outstanding performances by Exmouth, Newton Abbot and Dawlish and Teignmouth won the day, but it is an important part of the club's activities to meet with and compete against other clubs from Devon and further afield.
In the second half of the current season, there is a great deal more to look forward to enjoying.
Apart from the remaining two club internal competitions, members will be visiting Newton Abbot for the second half of the South Devon Photographic League contest and taking part in The Western Counties Digital Image challenge at Exeter.
Another "away" fixture is the annual three-club friendly get-together, this year being hosted by Dulverton.
Highlights in the home programme include a visit by Robin Ravilious, to exhibit and discuss the work of her late husband James, whose monochrome photographs of Dartmoor life have become iconic.
Apart from activities organised for the club as a whole, members are encouraged to form project groups to pursue their own special interests.
One such group is currently creating a photographic record of the construction of the new Crediton Link Road, of which a copy will be donated to the the Crediton Area History and Museum Society to provide a visual archive of this change in the Town's landscape.
The club is always pleased to see new members, whatever their photographic interests may be.
Anyone can be assured of a warm welcome at the regular Friday evening meetings at 7.30pm in the Masonic Hall, or for further information please contact the chairman, Peter Budd, on 01363 84358.
