A PHOTOGRAPH of a pink camellia flower in a drop of dew proved to be a winner for 16 years-old Sarah-Jayne Sargeant.
She had entered the Rotary young photographer competition, a national competition, winning her age category (14-17 years) in the Rotary Club of Boniface Crediton heat with three photographs.
There were three age groups in the competition, each with the theme of Reflection.
Local heats were held by 16 Rotary Clubs in Devon and Cornwall, each winner being entered in the District round in which Sarah-Jayne’s trio came joint third.
At a Rotary Club of Boniface Crediton meeting at the New Inn, Coleford, Sarah-Jayne received her prizes from club president, Paul Taylor, when copies of her photographs were on show.
As well as a certificate and a £25 Amazon voucher from the club, Sarah-Jayne received ACDSee Pro 10 Photographic Software from the District.
Sarah-Jayne is currently studying GCSE Photography at St Peter’s, Exeter and hopes to continue her photographic skills at Exeter College in September, where she will be doing an extended project on photography alongside her A level studies.
Her three photographs showed dawn reflected on the Exeter Canal, a reflection of Haldon Forest in a pair of sunglasses on a rock, and that photograph of the camellia in a dew drop hanging from a stem, a picture that Sarah-Jayne said would be overlooked by most people, one of the “unseen things.”
