LAST of the Messy Church series held at Yeoford Community Hall was on Saturday afternoon, May 7.  The theme this time was Pentecost.

This is 50 days after Easter, the day when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples, causing them to speak in tongues and be understood in any country.  Pentecost means 50.

Those taking part had made “pillars of fire” using long tubes of cardboard covered in coloured paper for flames or other tubes with balls of cotton wool to depict clouds.

The boys built a den, they all worked together to create a long map of the village, decorated jam jars to carry a battery tea light in while little ones could use the sand play.  Singing and tea ended the afternoon.

Messy Church is held in September, November, January, March and May so there will not be another until September.

Crediton curate, Lewis Eden, told the story of Pentecost, how Jesus’ disciples had hidden in a house, hence building a den, how they had been together when the Holy Spirit came down and strange words began coming out of their mouths.

Then suddenly people from around the world could understand them.
