LAPFORD Pensioners Party, held at the Victory Hall, was another great success with a delicious turkey meal, cooked by chef John “Bimbo” Burrows and his band of helpers who prepared all the vegetables, followed by Christmas pudding and/or fruit salad.
Everyone was greeted with a glass of sherry or wine. Andrew Drayton, Tesco Community Champion was there to help and provided the crackers and serviettes.
To start Paul Adams, with Alex Gater at the piano, sang Christmas songs for people to join in. Then Rev Copus said the grace.
After the meal Lapford Pre-school and Primary School children entertained with Carols and Christmas songs, concluding with a rousing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. They were thanked by some loud applause.
Finally Ron Kercher played the piano for more songs and music, ending appropriately with “In the Bleak Mid Winter” as it was a dreadful day, weatherwise, with rain, sleet and wind!
Sadly Edwin Passmore, who with several others, had the idea of a Pensioners Party several years ago, was unable to attend through illness, but he was thought of and wished a speedy recovery.
A truly great afternoon, with many thanks to the organisers who all worked so hard to ensure everyone had a lovely time.
