rence Ward has raised some important local issues, in- cluding the lack of town council elections since 2003.
I know many people who would love to serve on the Town Council and have a great interest in Crediton but feel excluded from local government due to politi- cal affiliation and sense of not being connected to the “right people”.
It is promising that Tim Matthews is standing in the election for councillor of Lawrence Ward.
He, for above reasons, may be viewed as an un- derdog but he’s been cam- paigning hard especially on the problem of traffic along Threshers during school times.
As a parent at Landscore School I know that this is a serious issue with no quick or easy solution.
Sadly, under the previous Headteacher’s time very little progress was made by the school in dealing with parking/traffic issues at Landscore.
Despite my attempts to bring this issue to the at- tention of the school as a parent and the efforts of a member of the Governing Board, Mr Ernie Lloyd, we are still struggling with the problem.
problem for the school to tackle or for parents, it is a problem the whole commu- nity must address and it is vital that it is tackled.
Something needs to be done as soon as possible before a child is either seri- ously injured or killed.
The Liberal Democrats have Town, District and County Councillors and they could, and should, have had a public consultation with residents, the school and the Highways Agency.
If the Town Council has been leading on parking issues in the Landscore School area for more than two years, then it is a shock- ing bureaucratic bungle as little or nothing has been done to resolve this prob- lem.
Surely by now the Coun- cil should have put forward some viable planning sug- gestions?
Well done Tim for speak- ing out, and supporting the suggested idea of a one-way system - along similar lines to the local bus route - with a safe drop off zone for school children, a long-term plan but one that would ultimate- ly make Threshers safer.
