DARTMOOR National Parks, who own and manage several car parks within the National Park together with district councils and other organisations such as the National Trust have introduced new car parking charges.

Income raised from the National Park Authority’s car parks will directly help to keep Dartmoor a special place by supporting conservation projects, maintaining paths, trails and visitor facilities.

The National Park car parking charges will apply to Haytor Lower, Haytor Upper, Meldon Reservoir, Postbridge Visitor Centre and Prince town.

New charges will apply at Haytor, Meldon and Postbridge from June.

All car parks will operate on a pay and display basis and charges will apply from Monday to Sunday between the hours of 10am and 6pm daily.

Cars will be charged £1 for up to three hours and £2 for more than three hours.

Blue Badge holders will pay £1 for all day parking, minibuses and coaches will be required to pay £4.

The charges have been introduced because the previous voluntary scheme showed that donation levels had fallen to just 15 pence per vehicle and the National Park Authority are no longer able to rely solely on donations.
