ON Tuesday, July 17, Badgers class at Bow Community Primary School held an afternoon tea for family and friends.
However, this was no ordinary afternoon tea - It was an afternoon tea free of palm oil to raise awareness of the damaging effects of palm oil on the environment.
This event was inspired by a previous visit to Paignton Zoo where the pupils had learned about the effects of deforestation on habitats and wildlife.
More than 35 guests were treated to a mouth-watering selection of sandwiches, scones, flapjack, shortbread and fruit pots – all of which had been made by the children themselves.
A presentation outlining the good, the bad and the ugly of palm oil production was delivered by the class.
In addition, solo musical performances were given by two pupils on the flute and the piano.
In total, £170 was raised from ticket sales and donations.
This money will be used to "adopt" five endangered animals at Paignton Zoo for a year and to support the zoo’s vital conservation work.
