THE biennial Morchard Bishop Open Gardens event was held in very warm and sunny weather which made it a pleasant experience to visit the 11 gardens taking part.

Despite the dry weather the owners had managed to keep their gardens looking resplendent. The gardens ranged in size from three small gardens in Old Rectory Gardens to the larger gardens at Pump Cottage and Cornerways and the even larger Lydcott Nursery.

One viewer at Pump Cottage was heard to remark that sitting with a cold glass of elderflower cordial listening to David Cottam playing the classical guitar in that beautiful garden was almost like being in heaven.

Excellent ploughman’s lunches, coffees and cream teas were served in the Memorial Hall and the event raised £1,806 for St Mary’s Church.
