AN Open Afternoon, held by the Friends of St Lawrence Chapel, on

Saturday, August 7, raised more than £150 towards the upkeep of the historic building and garden.

It had been hoped that visitors would be able to sit in the lovely garden but weather forced the event into the chapel where four large tables were arranged for people to enjoy their coffee and cake. Music was provided, throughout the afternoon, by a group of instrumentalists from the West Gallery Quire.

One of the organisers, Kathleen Hughes said: “The garden still looks wonderful: some braved the weather to sit outside on the new benches and a number people asked the gardener if she could go outside and discuss its care and the planting with them.

“The Friends would like to thank everyone who supported the event, especially the Friend who lives near Stratford upon Avon and arrived towards the end of the afternoon, having been held up in motorway traffic.”

The next Open Afternoon at St Lawrence Chapel will be held at the Chapel on Saturday, September 18, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, to celebrate the Centenary of the Re-Consecration of the building as a Chapel in 1921.

Everyone is welcome.
