IN AN unusual move, some localised one way orders will be put in place to prevent hold ups on some of the narrower roads around Crediton during forthcoming highway works.

The works will take place on the A377 and Joseph Locke Way, Crediton, from June 29 up to July 24.

The temporary one-way restrictions will be implemented on Hookway Road (Crediton Golf Course) to reach Crediton and Creedy Bridge to the Beer Engine heading towards Exeter. Signage will be in place.

These routes are being managed by iCivils and any issues with drivers not adhering to the diversions should be reported to the Police.

Tesco Stores Limited is responsible for these works and has appointed i-Civils Ltd as its delivery partner for these works.

The company has written to local residents about the works, which it says are split into three phases:

Phase 1 (June 29 to July 24) - works to A377 at the roundabout with Joseph Locke Way and Wellparks Hill.

• A convoy system in operation will allow the travelling public access to Tesco.

• A diversion route will be in place from Cowley Bridge to Bickleigh to Crediton. (It is understood that this is to aid the time delays for lorries etc getting to the estate or through Crediton)

• Wellparks Hill to the entrance to Tarka Way will be shut for the duration of this phase.

Phase 2 (July 27 to August 28) - works to the north of Joseph Locke Way, between the A377 roundabout and the entrance to Tesco store.

• 2 or 3 way lights will manage traffic flow into Tesco.

Phase 3 (August 31 to October 23) - Works to re-surface Joseph Locke Way.

• Along Joseph Locke Way, 2 or 3 way lights will be moved to encompass work as it progresses.

i-Civils says that it recognises the importance of maintaining access to businesses and residents, etc.

There will be no night or weekend working.

For Phase 1 and 2, a convoy system with three-way temporary traffic signals will operate during working hours and will be in place between 9am and 4.45pm.

Phase 3 will maintain the same working hours.

The works will include resurfacing the A377, footpaths and kerb remedials.

Information Boards will be arriving soon at Tesco Foyer and Crediton Library.

If you have specific questions or concerns, iCivils and Devon County Council will help - DCC 0345 155 1004 or iCivils 01392 466801.
