LIKE many other casualties of the pandemic, North Creedy Choral has been unable to hold its usual rehearsals and concerts for the last two years.
The exception being (with a very reduced number of choir members) was a concert during the Crediton Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival.
The Society held its first rehearsal on Monday, January 10.
Member John Musty, explained: “Our first rehearsal after such a long time was a real joy to be able to sing together again, tackling the beautiful ‘Faure Requiem’.
“With its powerful opening chords; the lyrical passages in the ‘Libera Me’; and the beautifully light ‘Sanctus’ among a host of other delights, the work is most uplifting.
“We will be also singing Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’ which is another great ‘singer’s’ piece of music.”
John continued: “Quite possibly the first rehearsal was a little sluggish, but under the friendly and necessarily sympathetic baton of Richard Stephens, parts were already beginning to sound lovely, and the soprano chorus was working particularly well.”
He continued: “Our concert is due to be performed on April 30, with featured soloists and an orchestra, to ensure that as always it will be a special occasion, for both singers and listeners alike.
“As we are only just beginning the term, there is plenty of time for new members to join us and experience a wonderful opportunity to sing beautiful music, in the magnificent, the acoustic, Holy Cross Church.
“Come and join us; you will be very welcome!”
Rehearsals take place in Holy Cross Church on Mondays, beginning at 7.30pm.
