NICK Creasy, county organiser of Devon Young Farmers’ Federation has set himself the ultimate Devon endurance challenge to raise funds for the new Devon YFC Rural Hub at Cheriton Bishop.

In just 48 hours, Nick will attempt to complete a 250-mile triathlon which will see him swim, run and cycle his way in a circular route across the county.

The charity event, called the “Devon Revolution”, will start on Friday, July 15 at 1pm at Axmouth harbour, where Nick will kick-start his challenge with a five-mile sea swim to Branscombe, followed by a 215-mile bike ride around the South coast and then North following the border of the County to the North Devon Coast, before heading East to finish the leg at Hemyock.

He will then start his 30-mile road run across the Blackdown Hills, aiming to finish in Axmouth on Sunday, July 17 before 1pm.

A support team will follow Nick on his route around Devon, providing spare equipment, first aid and moral support.

Dave O’Callaghan from Gentry and Partner is overseeing water safety in his boat while White Horse Motors in Whitestone have lent an Isuzu D-Max Yukon to follow Nick’s tracks throughout the weekend. The support team will consist of past County Chairman, Chris Berry, joined by County Chairman Jake Henson and Newton St Cyres YFC member Georgina Davie.

Chris Manley, Chairman of the National Federation of Young Farmers will be joining Nick on part of the road run.

Chris, who has been in training for a month said: “We’re really proud of Nick’s determination and commitment in completing this challenge and raising funds for the much-needed Rural Hub. The Hub will become the main office for YFC across Devon enabling the charity to develop its services to young people across the county.

“We hope this event will encourage members past and present, the general public and associated organisations to dig deep and show their support to Nick.”

With more than 1,600 members, Devon YFC supports young people in rural areas across the county, and is part of the wider National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs across England and Wales. The organisation provides training, competitions, sports and travel opportunities.

As well as being the central hub for the Devon YFC office, the new building in Cheriton Bishop will provide office space for local organisations and charities including the Farming Community Network, the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute and the British Wool Marketing Board.
