DUE to the coronavirus, Newton St Cyres Young Farmers’ Club has been unable to go ahead with its original (and exciting) fundraising plans for this year.
Instead, members have come up with a different idea - something that they can still do during lockdown.
Beginning on June 1, past and present members of the club will be walking and running 400 miles to raise money for their three chosen charities for this year: Devon Air Ambulance, Cancer Research UK and The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I.).
The members chose 400 miles because this is the distance to travel between every young farmers’ club in Devon.
Members have created an event on Facebook: (https://facebook.com/events/s/newton-st-cyres-yfc-walkrun/255292875549919/?ti=icl) which will offer daily updates of their progress throughout the week.
When they complete the challenge, Newton St Cyres YFC will challenge other young farmers’ clubs within Devon to have-a-go, too.
Members hope that this will spread across the county to raise lots of much-needed funds for charities.
