SIX councillors attended the June meeting of Newton St Cyres Parish Council plus the local County Councillor, Michael Lee, Mid Devon District Councillor, Peter Hare-Scott and two members of the public.
PC Keith Bradshaw and PCSO Lisa Crocker also attended part of the meeting and reported that May had been a busy month for calls to the Police in Crediton with queries ranging from raised manhole covers on the A377 to complaints about dangerous driving on the same road.
One crime had been reported relating to criminal damage to a motor vehicle.
The volunteers on the Community Speed Watch were thanked for their contribution to reducing speeding through the village. The Police agreed to keep an eye on the parking in Half Moon bus stop during the evening as an accident had been narrowly avoided recently.
Road signs. A resident had asked for a road sign indicating West Town Road to be erected and MDDC and DCC will check whose responsibility this is.
Information Board in Half Moon Lay-by. DCC will check the information given is up to date and ask that the sign be cleaned.
Allotments. A great deal of discussion took place on the state of the vacant allotments and the fact that these were not being taken up by the residents of Newton St Cyres.
It was agreed that exploratory talks should be initiated to see whether another site nearer the village and therefore easier to access could be used for allotments.
School Car Park. A site meeting had taken place at the proposed site for a School car park and the council agreed to submit a Planning Application to MDDC for change of use and to write to the School keeping them informed and asking them to begin with their promised fund raising for the project.
General. Street cleaning. The road sweeper had been to Tytheing Close and Cllr P Hare-Scott would check whether the sweeper could also visit Creedy View and New Estate.
Lengthsman. The next visit of the Parish Lengthsman is due later in August and a list of work to be carried out will be drawn up.
The next meeting of the parish council will be held on Monday, July 5 at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall Clubroom.
