A NEW way of letting Council and housing association homes in Devon, called Devon Home Choice, has been introduced.

Under Devon Home Choice council and housing association homes available for rent will be advertised on the internet, in newsletters and on digital TV.

People on the Devon Home Choice housing register will be able to bid for up to three homes each week that meet their needs.

From all the bids, the successful person or family will be the one who is eligible, has the highest housing need and has been waiting the longest.

Devon Home Choice will cover the whole of Devon. It will provide choice for people seeking housing and the ability to move within Devon. For example if you need to move to take up a new job.

Devon Home Choice will improve the way that council and housing association homes are let. However, it will not change the fact that there are far more people seeking a council or housing association home than there are homes available.

Even if someone is assessed as having a high priority for housing it may take them a long time to find a council or housing association home.

Most people are unlikely to be successful in finding a council or housing association home and will need to consider other housing options.
