FOR more than 10 years Sampford Courtenay Parish Council has been working to obtain the necessary planning permissions and funding to erect an additional War Memorial to commemorate another 11 sons of the parish who gave their lives in the two World Wars.

This year, on August 15, 2018, the Parish Council will be holding a Dedication Service for this new Memorial.

Parish Clerk, Marion Pratt, explained: “There are still a few snags to be sorted out, but says that throughout the long process there have been many councillors (past and present) who have been involved, together with one particular parishioner, David Knights, who has to be thanked for the exhaustive research he has done to ensure that ‘Every man will be commemorated’, at last.”

The short service will commence in the Square at 7pm and will be led by Rev Rita Bullworthy, with a Royal British Legion Bugler and Standard Bearer in attendance; followed by light refreshments in the Church Rooms.
