ALL six sections of a new classroom were craned into place at Yeoford School one morning, recently, part of a £160,000 improvement project.

Work to set up the crane began at 4.30am, with lorries carrying the sections which had been parked at Yeoford station overnight and the whole operation was completed by 10am, including almost two hours to sort out a breakdown.

The unit is bigger than the 30 years old mobile unit it replaces and will be used as a community room as well as a classroom. With increased numbers of pupils, this means the school staff can increase to three teachers next term.

Ground works, external and internal fittings were by Wernick Buildings of Neath, South Wales, with South West Crane Hire doing the lifting.

Supervising the work for Devon County Council was Chris Cooper who has children at the school and who is also a school governor.

As well as the new classroom that can also be used for such as the after school club, breakfast club, or village meetings, a new footpath into the school has been created and a car park.

The county council contributed £25,000 from its capital programme, £50,000 from the Extended Schools programme which came from the sale of Exeter Airport, with the rest coming from the school which had been saving for this for some years.
