THE Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) is to hold a national demonstration on Sunday June 24 to protest against anti-motorcycling legislation from the European Union which could cost the UK economy £millions.
Starting from Exeter at 11am, the local Mid Devon group will then travel up to Taunton Deane services in Somerset to join up with other bikers before heading southwards on the M5 motorway at 1pm, in a rolling road block to Lee Mill services on the A38 just outside Plymouth.
Last September, more than 600 bikers attended at Exeter Services to join the protest. So far, demonstrations and lobbying have managed to push back the decisions in order that they may first be properly scrutinised by MEPs.
Giles Chichester, MEP for the South West and Gibraltar attended a meeting held by MAG at Bridge Motorcycles in Exeter on March 30 to discuss what riders could do to battle the legislation.
It is hoped that Sunday's demo will remind the public that motorcyclist's rights are under threat from the EU.
These threats could have effects on all road users as the government is pushing to reduce congestion by encouraging car users to switch to two wheels.
The legislation needs to be correctly collected and researched.
More about the legislation can be found on MAG's website at http://www.mag-uk.org/en/campaigns">www.mag-uk.org/en/campaigns .
