THERE will be an exciting opportunity to enjoy a picnic and sizzling barbecue with "The Pirates of Penzance" at Eggesford on Friday, August 17.

The rip-roaring musical comedy from Gilbert and Sullivan will be staged at Eggesford Barton.

Gates will open at 4.30pm and the play will begin at 6.30pm.?"The Pirates of Penzance" will be performed by Illyria at the historic 17th century Eggesford Barton, once the main farm for the Earls of Portsmouth.

There will be a chance to listen to memorable songs such as "To be a Pirate King", "Modern Major General" and "A Policeman’s Lot is not a Happy One".

Those attending are invited to take along a picnic and enjoy the spectacular panoramic views looking down on Eggesford Forest and the Taw Valley.

Home-made cakes, tea, Pimms and other drinks and a barbecue will be available.

Tickets, priced at £15 for individuals, £11 for families with children under 18, are available from Eggesford Garden Centre.

A special offer discount is available for groups of eight or more people.

Free parking will be available with easy access next to the venue.

Those attending are reminded that the A377 is closed between Eggesford and Lapford and an alternative route will need to be taken.

To find Eggesford Barton (EX18 7QU), take the road for Eggesford Garden Centre and go past the Church to the venue.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the upkeep of Eggesford All Saints Church.
