THE Glade at Penstone saw much activity at its annual apple pressing held recently.
Friends, neighbours and families gathered to help pick, crush and press apples shared from local orchards, and the apple juice flowed freely.
This year there was brand new apple pressing equipment, including a crusher, pasteuriser and apple press.
The new equipment was made possible by donations, including £600 from the Devon County Council Locality Fund, supported by Councillor Nick Way, Friends of the Glade, local businesses, and other generous individual donations.
The target has almost been reached, with just over £200 to go in order to pay for the equipment fully.
Jayne Clemence, Chair of The Glade Community Association, said: “The apple pressing is a great way for the community to meet, across all ages, keep in touch, work together and share the apple harvest for another year. For some, it will be the start of cider making, and others will store the juice to use through the winter”.
The Glade Penstone is a community space for “the quiet enjoyment of all”.
If you are walking through the hamlet, you are invited to enjoy the beauty and peace of The Glade.
The next Glade gathering will be on Saturday, December 21 for the Christmas bonfire and to celebrate the shortest day - the Winter Solstice.
