A MAJOR fundraising event in the Crediton Parish Church calendar each year is the St Nicholas Fair, which was held in the Boniface Centre on Saturday, November 21.
The Fair saw a large number of people attending who were able to browse a selection of stalls from local churches, a Crediton Mothers’ Union cake stall and others selling jewellery, jigsaws, boxed games, pictures, seasonal decorations and items from the church shop.
There were also stalls from other local churches and those selling items from Yeoford Yarns and Bridge Books of Exeter.
One very popular feature of the Fair was the Silent Auction where people were able to bid for a diverse range of donated items.
A special item this year in the auction was a limited edition etching in silver and gold on black paper of the drawing of St Boniface which hangs in the St Nicholas Chapel.
The etching (and the original painting) were the work of Austrian artist Ernst Degasperi and were originally sold in support of the 1980 St Boniface celebrations.
Light refreshments and soup and filled rolls were also served during the day.
The event raised around £1,150 for the Parochial Church Council to help fund day-to-day running costs such as utility bills and the maintenance of services.
• Members of Crediton Methodist Church ran a stall at the event which made a profit of £180 for their refurbishment fund. Thanks go to Elizabeth and helpers for contributing towards the total.
