A petition is due to be presented to Devon County Council calling for a cycle path between Crediton and Exeter.
The petition was handed to County Councillor Nick Way by Laura Conyngham, a member of Crediton Climate Action transport group, outside the offices of the Courier on Monday, July 20.
Cllr Way represents Crediton's rural area and will present it to county environment officer Edward Chorlton at the next full meeting of the county council on November 10.
More than 140 signatures were gathered for the petition in the High Street, at the recent National Bike Week events held locally and from members of the congregation of Crediton Parish Church.
Rev Nigel Guthrie, who is also active in the campaign, says the Tarka Trail is proving very popular and a safe cycle path from Crediton to Exeter will bring economic benefit to the town and the businesses along its route.
Laura Conyngham said: "Our supporters are surprisingly varied. People see a cycle path as a sustainable, healthy investment."
Cllr Way made a commitment to back the cycle route at the recent local elections.
He is hoping to add further signatures to the petition and can be telephoned on 01363 777903.
