FOUR local primary schools, Landscore, Hayward’s, Copplestone and Bow took part in the annual Crediton & District Lions Club Peace Poster competition, which is sponsored by Lions Club International.
The overall idea is to get young people to think about peace and to create a poster to promote peace worldwide.
In all there were 113 children from the combined schools who took part in the competition this year.
An overall winner and runner-up was awarded for each school: Bow - 1 Charlotte Swift, 2 Elsie Harris, Copplestone - 1 Eliza Toll, 2 Sam Harris, Hayward’s - 1 Trinity Jay Garrad, 2 Margot Kitchen, Landscore 1 Miriam Greggory, 2 Elizabeth Spivey.
All of the posters were judged by local artist, Mike Palmer and the Lions Club are most grateful for the interest he has shown in the contest.
One poster from the four schools was selected as an overall winner, which will go forward to represent the Lions Club of Crediton in the South West area.
Landscore Primary School pupil Miriam Gregory’s peace poster was judged to be the overall winner.
Miriam’s work will be sent on to be judged alongside other winning posters from children across the South West. If successful she will progress to international level.
Eric Parkes, President of the Crediton Lions Club presented the awards and was accompanied to the schools by other Lions Club members.
He congratulated the children on their excellent work and said: "We would like to thank the schools for allowing the pupils to take part once again.
"We would also like to thank the teachers and staff who make the competition possible."
Landscore Primary School headteacher, Debbie Main said: "I would like to say how impressed I was with the high quality of entries and was delighted that Miriam’s design was chosen as the winning entry for the local district.
