MIKE Davis’ spell as president of Crediton Boniface Rotary came to an end on June 28, after an extended period of 18 months.

It was extended by six months to avoid the height of the pandemic.

Rotary’s moto is “Service Before Self” and this has been amply illustrated during Mike’s presidency.

His presidency culminated in the distribution of donations to local charities;

Hospiscare in Exeter, Age Concern Crediton and District, FORCE cancer charity, The Amber Foundation and Mid Devon Mobility in Tiverton were each presented with a cheque for £1,000, which had been raised by the club.

Donations have also been made during the year to Crediton Arts Centre, Landscore Primary School, and the Rotary UK Ukraine appeal.

In addition, the club has been very pleased to support the Crediton Foodbank during the last 18 months.

During the period Crediton Boniface Rotary acted as marshals in the overflow car park at the Lords Meadow vaccination centre.

They were also responsible for installing the Christmas trees in the town, and for putting up the flags in the high street for the summer.

Members ran the barbecue for Crediton Town Council in Newcombes Meadow on the Saturday of the Jubilee celebrations and also helped to marshal the Christmas in Crediton event.

Some members also helped in the Age Concern charity shop.

The annual Rotary Young photographer of the year competition resulted in two entries from local schools being selected for the national finals.

These were “Autumn Tree” by William Scoins from Morchard Bishop Primary School in the junior section and “Through Glass” by Katherine Pailthorpe from Chulmleigh College in the Intermediate Section.

The planters at the approaches to the town are planted and looked after by members of the club.

Liz Ledsham, as incoming president, will present Mike with his past president’s badge at the next meeting. These are normally held at The Red Lion at Shobrooke.

Rotary is an international organisation and so has also contributed to The Rotary Foundation which is a worldwide charity.
