AT a meeting of Mid Devon District Council on Thursday, December 1, councillors approved the District’s Local Plan Review for public consultation on the proposed changes to the plan.

The Local Plan will deliver new homes, jobs, schools, vital transport infrastructure including improved motorway access and important strategic environmental enhancement schemes such as flood alleviation projects.

It provides protection for local green spaces, historic environment and landscapes.

Councillor Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, said: “The new Local Plan provides a fantastic opportunity to deliver sustainable development that reflects the vision and aspirations of our district.

"This will include more than 2,000 affordable homes, fundamental improvements to Junction 28 of the M5 motorway, a new railway station and town centre relief road at Cullompton and enhanced community facilities.

"This latest consultation looks at the changes to the Plan which have been made in response to comments previously raised by the public and other organisations.”

MDDC says the consultation will be held between January 3 and February 14, 2017, with details to be published shortly.

Following consultation, responses will be reviewed by the council before the Local Plan is sent to an Independent Planning Inspector who will examine the Local Plan and all comments received.
