LOCAL charity, Mid Devon Mobility, would like to thank five volunteer car drivers who, in total, have donated 52 years in volunteering.

Mrs Sarah Holmes, Crediton Co-ordinator, said: "These drivers are reluctantly stepping down after helping the frail, elderly and rural isolated in the Crediton and surrounding areas, some starting with Crediton Community Transport many years ago.

"Beryl Downs, from Cheriton Fitzpaine, volunteered the longest at 18 years, Ken Grant from Morchard Bishop has volunteered for 16 years, Denzil Tancock from Crediton for eight years, Ted Sweet from Winkleigh for seven years and Tom Hart from Hookway for three years. They will be sadly missed.

"All have been exceptional drivers, giving their time and support in helping this worthy charity taking passengers to and from hospital, doctors surgeries, dental and other appointments.

"The need for Covid vaccine injections and Covid tests prior to hospital admissions has increased the work undertaken."

Mrs Holmes added that the charity is now looking to recruit new volunteers.

She continued: "Who among us has not, at some time, been impacted positively by the generosity of a volunteer?

"Without volunteers Mid Devon Mobility cannot continue to provide its services to the elderly, disabled and isolated people of our community…Can you help?"

She said that prospective volunteers should have a clean UK driving licence and have a couple of hours to spare each week for its community car service.

If you can help, please contact the Mid Devon Mobility team on 01363 773303 where someone can talk you through getting you on-board as a volunteer.

All expenses will be recompensed.
