THE publication of my new book about a retired Devon farm worker who had 30 grandsons in the Great War has produced an amazing response.

I have met a number of direct descendants of John, who lived in Witheridge, including the son and grand-daughter of Archie Roberts, of Thorverton, who served in the 13th Hussars – and was one of the 30 who went to war.

A "John Roberts family reunion" is now being planned for the autumn of this year.

The event will be held in Mid Devon, where John and his grandsons were born and lived.

I am hoping that a large number of direct descendants, and their families, will be able to attend.

It would be a great highlight in a year when the publication of the book, "History Maker", is already doing so much to bring together people related to John.
