AN initial meeting has been held to find a night time landing site for Devon Air Ambulance at Bow.
Bow Parish councillors Maurice Williams and Campbell McAllister, the Parish Clerk, Brenda Ware, plus Bow Village Hall and Field Committee representatives Doreen May and Gill Nicks met Toby Russell, Community Helipad Development Officer of Devon Air Ambulance Trust, in Bow.
The possibility of a community helipad being created at Bow village field, in the centre of Bow, was discussed with Mr Russell.
The meeting reported back: “While there may be one or two other possible potential sites at Bow, very pleasingly the village field site would appear to meet the criteria required - it is big enough, level, free of overhead power cables and trees, has vehicle and pedestrian access and is central to the Bow community.”
DAAT aims to commence night flying, up to midnight, later this year. For night landings a specific type of lighting is required which would need to be installed and that comes at a cost.
Taking this worthwhile project forward would probably mean additional funding would need to be sought.
As yet, Bow does not know what exact costs might be - when a feasibility study has been completed with quotations obtained, further meetings will be needed.
