POLICE who were investigating the unexplained death of a man in Crediton have confirmed that the death was due to a medical episode.

Officers were called to a property at Boniface Court, Mill Street, Crediton on Sunday, August 19, where the body of a man in his 50s was discovered.

Scenes of crime officers carried out checks at the property.

A 35-year old man was arrested and helped police with their inquiries.

Police said the results of a post-mortem examination confirmed that the man did not die in suspicious circumstances.

Detective Sgt Jill Sawyer told the Courier: " I am able to confirm that the man died from a medical episode but I am just waiting for confirmation from toxicology results.

"The man who was helping with inquiries was de-arrested and I am pleased to say there were no suspicious circumstances.

"I am preparing a file for the coroner.

"I understand the family will be arranging for a funeral."

The man has been named locally as Patrick Ayre. He was well-known within the town.
