THE British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) will be running this year’s Hedgehog Awareness Week from May 6 to 12.
The society was founded in 1982 and offers help and advice to those with sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs.
The BHPS is asking people to pledge to do at least one thing to raise awareness of the hedgehogs’ plight during Hedgehog Awareness Week.
Ideas of how you can help include contacting your local council or tool hire company and asking them to use the society’s strimmer stickers on their machines. Free stickers are available at: www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/hedgehog-heroes-roll-honour .
You could organise an event such as a coffee morning, cake sale, jumble sale, sponsored event or a fun day. Or display information in your local library, school or garden centre, etc.
To make a donation text HHOG18 £5 to 70070 to donate £5 to BHPS (or change the amount to the amount you wish to donate).
You can also find the British Hedgehog Preservation Society’s JustGiving Appeal page at: https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/bhps/haw18 … and if you are holding an event or doing a sponsored challenge you can link in with the society there.
Alternatively, you could post leaflets in your area letting people know how to help hedgehogs in their gardens.
