QUEEN Elizabeth's Community College was privileged to welcome the Osiligi Maasai Dance Troupe as part of their 13 week tour of the UK.

Eight Maasai (six men and two women) from Kenya inspired and rendered many spectators speechless as they performed at the Upper School.

The troupe are touring the UK in order to raise awareness of their culture and also to generate funds to support their families and village back home.

Over 350 Upper School students witnessed a stunning performance by the Maasai, who performed dance, dramatic storytelling and song from their culture and showed us their jumping expertise.

Some staff and students were invited to jump with them as part of their performance - this took audience participation to a new level - literally!

Two fifty-minute performances gave a rare insight into the lives of the Maasai and their culture, and were inspiring and uplifting.

Vicky Salter and Dulcie Sellick of the Expressive Arts department said: "Every student and staff member who had the privilege of meeting with the Osiligi Troupe left the performance smiling and 'richer'... and we hope to welcome them back again."

QECC was recently awarded International School status from the British Council for its range of initiatives and projects focused on raising awareness of international issues and educating students about other cultures, including a fruitful partnership project with a Tanzanian school.
