CHERITON Fitzpaine has fared well in the latest round of National Lottery awards.

Cheriton Fitzpaine Parish Hall and Cheriton Fitzpaine Garden Club both received funding in the November allocation of £3.3 million awarded to more than 70 community projects across the South West.

The Parish Hall has received £10,000 to install a new heating system, fire alarm and a Hearing Loop.

The hall committee says this will improve the environment at the hall and ensure it meets Health and Safety regulations.

Cheriton Fitzpaine Garden Club will use an award of £4,365 towards a 90th anniversary Big Summer Celebration.

It says the funding will be used to provide an event where the local gardening, allotment and horticultural groups can network.

It adds that this will enable communities to tackle local environmental problems and improve the local area.

Talking about the awards across the South West, Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund, England Grant Making Director, said: “It’s really great to see these projects making a positive difference to people’s lives, whether through supporting parents affected by perinatal mental illness or refurbishing the village hall at the heart of the community. These projects are all strong examples of empowering people facing a range of challenges to play an active role in their community.”

The awards have been made through the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All and Reaching Communities programmes. Awards for All provides grants between £300 and £10,000 to voluntary and community organisations and Reaching Communities awards larger grants of £10,000 and above for more long-term projects.
