I HAVE recently heard about the proposed Pedlarspool development. I pass this beautiful valley on the approach to Crediton most days and cannot believe the proposal could be possible, given that the Government claims (at last!) to care about the environment.

The proposed development seems to contradict all logic - unless there are hidden incentives that the public are not being told about, as is too often the case with powerful developers.

Why does Crediton need another industrial development when the current one isn't even full? And why does it need 400 new houses - to be built on a rural flood plain and rich agricultural land, and away from rail links?

How can Mid Devon District Council justify decisions that run contrary to all current concerns and directives?

We already have a huge Tescos being foisted on us when we are also about to have a Morissons. Apparently we are so greedy that we need both.

And now we are told that a greenfield site the other side of Crediton, where environmental damage will be even greater, is being proposed. Whose interests will this serve?

Daily we wreck our precious environment for short term gain and long term damage. Sometimes I feel ashamed to be human.
