LOCAL poet, Doreen Beer, has just completed her latest book "West Country Wanderings in Poetry" which contains some family history as well as poems drawn from her imagination.

Doreen, who lives in Thorverton was born in Devon where she has lived all her life. The inspiration for her poems comes from her love of the countryside.

Writing poetry had a positive effect on Doreen’s wellbeing during the years she spent as a carer for her husband and later her mother.

The church at Thorverton has been an important part of her life and she is a former chorister and flower arranger.

One of Doreen’s poems is included in the village magazine each month and "This England" has published many of her poems over the years.

Her first three books books; "Poems from a Devon Village" (1977), "Poems from the English Countryside" and "Through Nature’s Voice" have been very popular.Published by Arthur H Stockwell Ltd. ISBN 978-0-7223-4886-4
